The future of home-interior as we don’t know it yet.

3 min read

It’s 4 am, and the alarm clock is buzzing two hours earlier than usual. Not because of a malfunction, but because your kiddo’s teacher gave additional tasks, which your smartwatch could scan and gave a command to the alarm clock to buzz early, the Window Blinds to open up early, and the shower to turn on the geyser early. 10 years from now, none of us would be turning lights and fans on and off using a switch, they would just know. This is what the future looks like; a beautiful amalgamation of phygital world – using IoT, AR, VR, and ML.

Do you know that we spend on an average 90% of our time indoors? This makes for most of our lives, being spent indoors; and still, we abhor thinking about how to make indoors more invigorating, succulent, spacious, brighter – and more on to it ‘a place to be.’

Now, whether we realise it or not, along with our lifestyle preferences, our eating preferences, our clothing preferences, our mode of traveling preferences – our preference about ‘how and what do we want in the home-interior has also changed drastically since the time we know it.

We can now monitor and control everything from lighting and home security to heating, ventilation and air conditioning all from our smartphones and tablets – even remotely via the cloud.

Let’s go through a futuristic time-travel of how & what our home-interiors would look like in the future.

Futuristic Feature 1

By the time we will move out our automobile (and by the time our automobile will self park in it’s desired location), and by the time we will commute from parking lot to our house, our smark-window-blinds would know what time it is, what do we generally do at that time and shall arrange itself automatically to provide just-required light and air filtration. In other words, each and every equipment’s of yours that could be digitally connected would be digitally connected – we call it IoT.

Example: Just the way our automobile’s AC or house or office air-con gets on and off automatically. IoT is the future.

Futuristic Feature 2

Alexa would be tuned with our Window Blinds. In other words, we would be talking to our beloved Blinds.

Anticipation of home owner / office owner’s need is what ML is doing currently. And ML can augment fast if we adopt IoT faster.

For that matter, can we imagine our mirror talking to us ?.

Futuristic Feature 3

The fabric of the Blinds would be able to change its colours as per our mood; just the way our automobile’s ambience colour is changing its colour as per our mood today. Blinds would take care of our mood swings.

Futuristic Feature 4

The shopping experience is going to change. With more and more applications popping up and digital wave taking over everything else, visualization of our home interiors would be a normal part of our buying process. With rapid advancement in Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, people will use visualization for buying a new piece of furniture or a rug. Customers would be able to look at their actual room with the new piece of furniture on their mobile device with a single click of a button in absolutely no time. Btw, whether you buy that piece of furniture or not, you can still take a snap shot of how beautiful the room may look like with that furniture.

Futuristic Feature 5

The future of retail is bright, with smart retail outlets. These retail outlets would be smart, will have digital eyewear for real time comparison, will have QR Codes to visualize your room interior in real time, and will have an extremely agile after sales team to deliver your product and install it at your location before you could reach yourself.

Futuristic Feature 6

Can we dream of drones delivering our beautiful Window Blinds ?

If you think of it,
the future is the only thing that can be created, rest everything is already created.

Also,

As our homes and offices learn more about us, keeping them secure will become all the more important. Every IoT-connected device would be a potential target for hackers. The future needs to be safe.
